One of the most important battle was the battle at Fort Sumter. On April 12, 1861 the confederates begain to attack Fort Sumter from the shore of Chaleston Harbor. The commander of the confederates was Major Robert Anderson. On April 13, 1861 in the morning the Texas Senator Louis Wigfall arranges the surander of Fort Sumter with Major Robert Anderson. The North did try to take back the fort by a naval attack but the fort was to strong. The ships had to retreat because they were heavily damage from the connon fire from the shore. The North also attacked with heavy connon fire that did do damage to the shore and the fort. The North did not send an assult because the civil had just started.
Another Important battle was The battle of bull run. This battle took place at Virginia near Arlington. There the confederates took control of a in portant rail way for the north. On 9:00 am on July 21, 1861 the union troops attacked the confederates on Matthew Hill, west of Young's Branch. The battle was going for the Union until the confederates charge and the Union line broke. The Confederates won the battle at bull run.
Shiloh was consider the bloodiest day and the bloodiest two day battle of the Civil War. This battle started on April 7, 1862 the Union commander was Ulysses S. Grant and the confederate commander was Albert Sidney Johnston. The Confederates won the battle but at a high price. The confederate losses were 1,723 dead, 8,012 wounded, and 959 missing. The Union losses were1,754 dead, 8,408 wounded, and 2,885 missing.
